Each month we post a wish list for a different organization in town. It is our hope that people in the community who see this list might be able to help meet these needs in some way. If you have a wish list you would like posted, please send us an email with your attached wish list. If everyone gives just a little, we can help others.

Now in its third decade of service, CCA continues to be a force for community building and social change.
We have three levels of need within our Stepping Stone Transitional Housing Program:
1. food - we maintain a food pantry for the 18 resident families. Non perishable items that are high in protein are preferred.
2. furniture - we maintain 35 apartments, 18 of them within our Stepping Stones Housing Program, so until the residents secure furniture, we offer tables, bureaus, bed frames and chairs. We only ask that the furniture be in good condition. We also request household items and materials for the families. We've had groups donate new buckets and mops and another group donate school supplies for children.
3. finances - we can always benefit from monetary contributions so that we can operate the Program. What we receive will go towards maintenance and upkeep, as well as staff salaries.
"CCA is an ecumenical social service organization that expresses faithful witness by providing emergency food, housing and support to those who are poor in New Haven, encouraging them in their efforts to attain self-sufficiency, and working to change systems that perpetuate poverty and injustice."
Our operating principle is to offer Help, Housing and Hope.
Christian Community Action has been in existence since 1967. We began operation of Stepping Stone in 1998.
Thirty-five years ago, a house was destroyed by fire on Congress Avenue in New Haven, leaving a family homeless. An ecumenical group of Catholics and Protestants, seeking a way to put their faith into action and to demonstrate their concern during a highly turbulent time in our history, came to the rescue. Thus the organization we today call Christian Community Action, Inc. (CCA) was born.
Current Programs and Activities: CCA operates Hillside Family Shelter (a 17-apartment emergency shelter for families), a neighborhood food pantry, a fuel assistance program and a diaper bank, Stepping Stone Transitional Housing Program (an 18-apartment residential program for families previously homeless), the Program for Internships, Vocational Opportunities and Training (PIVOT) and the Advocacy and Education Project, (which organizes educational institutes, engages in advocacy and supports Mothers for Justice, which is comprised of women who are interested in advocacy). CCA also organizes an annual Thanksgiving Basket Distribution and engages in neighborhood assistance (e.g., notary services).
